So I have had the name of my blog for many months now and I have yet to describe what it means or why I picked it. So here it goes. After initially settling on this name after a long road trip, I realized that this name can mean many things. Hopefully this will be a four part post.
The verse that this phrase comes out of is Luke 19:37-40:
As he was drawing near – already on the way down the Mount of Olives – the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
Now before I go into the meaning of this text in its context, I am going to take it from its context, Something that I usually can’t stand. I’ll get to the primary meaning later.
What this means in this circumstance for me is, the rocks cry out Jesus’ name. They make it self evident his existence. Another way to say this is general revelation. Psalm 119 describes this probably the best in the bible:
1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world
All creation including the rocks point toward their creator. This is what I saw on my road trip. I was utterly astounded by the beauty of the vast amount of different rock formations. The landscape arch, the welcoming picture on my blog, is one of them. Check out my post on my road trip to see some of the rocks that took my breath away. The grand canyon, Bryce, Moab, and Zion were the main ones.
The rocks also cried out one more thing that I noticed. That was catastrophy. The formations that were formed are not formed in normal storms or by processes we see today. What these formations point to is a world wide catastrophe that would be a global flood. What I particularly enjoyed see was the rock layers. This is something that I never really saw growing up. Any way, check it out, the rocks cry out.
